Who are the Old Salts?

We are canoe enthusiasts aged 55+ who enjoy the outdoors, the water and each other's company.

Members of the Old Salts canoe weekly on Tuesday mornings (weather permitting) throughout the season on lakes and rivers throughout southwestern Ontario. Sometimes, there are also more leisurely trips planned on Thursdays as well as some evening paddles that we fondly refer to as "easy breezy"! The majority of our trips are within an hour's drive from the KW area though some trips may be farther. We've enjoyed exploring the Grand River, Nith River, Saugeen River, Conestoga River, Nottawasaga River, Beaver River and the Speed River (to name a few).  Lake paddles include Puslinch Lake and Floradale Lake (to name a few).

Trips are planned with the skill levels of our members in mind from our "Easy Breezy" paddles to our more challenging paddles that include navigating some rapids and practicing skills learned in our training sessions! Whatever your skill level, we always have fun.....

Don't canoe? No problem.  Some of our members also enjoy hiking. These walks happen on Tuesday mornings, weather permitting, all year long!
