Who are the Old Salts?
We are canoe enthusiasts aged 55+ who enjoy the outdoors, the water and each other's company. Our resources include a number of canoes, a kayak, a canoe trailer for transporting the canoes, paddles and other equipment. With support from the city of Waterloo, we were able to build a storage shed several years ago.
Members of the Old Salts canoe weekly on Tuesday mornings (weather permitting) throughout the season on lakes and rivers throughout southwestern Ontario. The majority of our trips are within an hour's drive from the KW area though some trips may be farther. A fee is paid for every trip depending upon the driving distance.
Our hikers meet also on Tuesday mornings at 9:00am and walk trails in the Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge area. The outings are one to two hours long and end at a coffee shop for some conversation and good companionship.
Winter months do not stop the Old Salts from being active. Hikes continue throughout the winter. When the snow is plentiful, many members enjoy snow shoeing or cross country skiing.
