  1. What an amazing canoe trip! I used to live in Plattsville but never went down by the river as there are no walkways just roads. Very interesting to see the town from the river. Samuel Platt registered a subdivision in the Nith’s flood plain back in the 1800s but I guess they realized what happens to the river in the spring and moved the development further east. Even so, our house at Mill and Fennel was inside the 100-year waterline and so would half the town. Audrey and I managed some fancy manoeuvres (sort of like bumper cars but with a canoe as we bounced along the banks under the influence of the current) but we managed to stay mostly upright and only took on a bit of water and didn’t flip the canoe. Such a lovely day with a clear blue sky for the whole trip. Big thanks to Lynn for organizing, Wayne for leading, Armand for towing, and all the helpers to get us onto and out of the water.
