Last week’s scouting trip was  very successful. There was enough interest that the group decided to explore another section of the Nith River for possible inclusion on the trip schedule for next year. Therefore, there will be another scouting trip next Tuesday. Canoe cleaning is being rescheduled for Thursday, October 21st. Details for the trip are as follows:
WHERE: Part of the Nith River. Exact section will depend on the flow rates over the next few days and will be determined on Sunday.
WHEN:Â Tuesday, Oct. 19th
TIME:Â Meet at the shed at 8:30 a.m.
ORGANIZERS:Â Lynn Warmington & Wayne Bean
SKILL LEVEL:Â Experienced paddlers only since this is a scouting trip!

What an amazing canoe trip! I used to live in Plattsville but never went down by the river as there are no walkways just roads. Very interesting to see the town from the river. Samuel Platt registered a subdivision in the Nith’s flood plain back in the 1800s but I guess they realized what happens to the river in the spring and moved the development further east. Even so, our house at Mill and Fennel was inside the 100-year waterline and so would half the town. Audrey and I managed some fancy manoeuvres (sort of like bumper cars but with a canoe as we bounced along the banks under the influence of the current) but we managed to stay mostly upright and only took on a bit of water and didn’t flip the canoe. Such a lovely day with a clear blue sky for the whole trip. Big thanks to Lynn for organizing, Wayne for leading, Armand for towing, and all the helpers to get us onto and out of the water.
