SAUGEEN RIVER {Photos} Part 3

Although our canoe season is now over, I’m sure no one will disagree that we had a terrific time on each of our trips. This particular trip was the third part of the Saugeen River we like to canoe beginning at Access 10 and ending at Access 13.

We had a great turnout with 24 canoeists and a beautiful day.  Of course it ended with  a refreshing swim at Port Elgin, fish and chips and  ice-cream for the die-hards!!

Many thanks to our trip organizers,  Evan & Jane Jenkins for organizing this popular outing and to Eugene Marion for being our second tower.

This is one of our most popular trips. If you missed it this year, be sure to mark it on your calendar for next season!

GEOCACHE DAY { Tues. Nov 5th}

Old Salts GEOCACHE Day at Woolwich  Reservoir / Floradale Lake

Our annual Geocache Day will be held on Tuesday November 5th. Geocaching is similar to a treasure hunt. It provides plenty of exercise, combined with your “ seek and find “ skills. The process will be explained briefly at Wing 404 prior to leaving.

Time / Place: 9AM at Wing 404 { Canoe Club } on Dutton Drive

Where do we Geocache? In areas around Floradale Lake

Who can participate ?  Any club member ** In former years we have Geocached along various easy walking sections of the Kissing Bridge Rail Trail. Our outing this time will be quite vigorous, with lots of obstacles and ups and downs, combined with a 4 to 5 Km distance, as we go through the woods.**

What to wear? Warm loose weather proof clothing and a hat, temperature forecast of 7, feels like 3, sun/cloud with the slight possibility of some rain. A good pair of hiking shoes are a must.

What to bring: A snack, container of water,a pen . If you own a GPS for trail use and wish to download the sites, email Chris at sheppardcme@hotmail.com for a list and he will send it to you. You will have a chance to use one on the outing. You don’t need to have one of your own.

What happens? Meet at club at 9, listen to an overview of Geocaching, break into two groups, car pool to the Floradale Lake {direction provided}, where you will begin the ‘hunt’. At the end, you may wish to go to Bonnie Lou’s in Floradale for lunch as last year or just head back to the 404.

Watch for any changes on the Blog up to and including Monday night

Organizers: Chris Sheppard and many willing Geocache helpers !

Celebration of Life – Murray Pope

Hello all,

It is with great sadness that we let our membership know of the passing our great friend Murray Pope last week.

For those of you who don’t know him, he was our President for many years and was instrumental in getting our club to where it is today. For those of you who do know him, he was a great friend who will be remembered for his smile, inclusiveness and larger than life personality.

To celebrate his life, please join Pat (his wife) and family and friends on Sunday, November 3rd at Wing 404 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Thank you.
