Just a reminder that the Easy Breezy canoe trip scheduled for Thursday, June 20th (MOUNTSBERG RESERVOIR) is a go. Please let me know you are coming by Wed. June 19th 8:00 pm.
We will be meeting at the shed at 9:00 am and departing at 9:15 am. Cost is $6. See here for links on what to bring, etc
Please note that there is also a charge of $6.75 per person to get into the park.

This event is for OSSCC members who have previously registered.
Our day starts at on Tuesday June 18th at 9:00 am at Camp Ki-Wa-Y.
For those who wish to carpool please meet at 8:30 am at the 404.  All others should proceed directly to Camp Ki-Wa-Y. We will all meet with the program staff in the camp’s parking lot.
What to bring: ​your pfd; small dry sack, water, sunhat, sunscreen , insect repellent, plus bathing suit and towel. (Canoes and paddles are supplied at the camp)
Location: ​​​Camp Ki-Wa-Y, 3738 Hessen Strasse, St Clements
Time: ​​​​9am to 3pm (approx.)
Directions from the 404: ​
o Turn R onto Weber St (go 2.1km, about 4 minutes)
o Turn L onto Benjamin Rd/Regional Road 40 (go 5.7km, about 7minutes)
o Turn R onto Kressler Rd/Regional Rd 16 (go 98m)
o Take the first L onto Hessen Strasse/Township Rd 5 East (go 3.5 km, about 7 minutes)
o Turn L into the camp driveway at 3738 Hessen Strasse and proceed to the parking lot next to buildings (350 m, 1minute)
What is included: ​​Continental breakfast and lunch are provided
Canoeing on a beautiful private lake; participating in games on the water
Optional swimming opportunity

What to Bring on a Canoe Excursion

Just a reminder that the Grand River to Pioneer Sportsman Club is tomorrow on June 6th. For details, see here. (This event was originally planned for last Tuesday, but was rained out)
The canoe trip on Tuesday, June 4th (Conestoga River from St. Jacob’s to Kaufman Flats on the Grand River) has been changed to Conestoga to Victoria St. due to low water on the Conestoga River. We will start in Conestoga and paddle past the junction of the Conestoga River and the Grand River. We will pass Schneider’s Flats and Kaufman’s Flats.
It is a very scenic trip with a few interesting areas to keep us on our toes. The River Flow rates are high for this time of year, so we should have easy padding. Hopefully, we will see some Herons and other wild life.
Paddle time will about 3 hours. Bring the usual sunscreen, insect repellent, snack/lunch and lots of water. Meet at the shed at 8:30 for an 8:45 am departure. Cost is $6.00. Don’t forget drivers need a little extra for driving ($5?).   Please check your email or the  blog before heading out on Tuesday morning in case of cancellation.

We happy to report that the our potluck/canoe trip from last Tuesday has been rescheduled for this coming Thursday, June 6th. Â See here for details.
The Tuesday trip is still a go. More info to follow.
We are still in need of Trip Organizers for the following trips:
June 25th – Speed River (Niska Rd. to Hespeler Pond)
July 16th – Puslinch Lake (Night Paddle)
July 30th – Grand River – Brant Conservation to Erie Blvd (Brandtford)
August 27th – Luther Marsh
Sept 3rd – Big Creek, Norfolk County
Sept 10th – Grand River – Cambridge to Glen Morris
Sept 16 – 20 – Bondi (may be cancelled due to lack of interest)
Sept 24th – Rockwood Conservation Area

We are happy to say that we have 73 members this year with 20 new members. Â With training now over, our canoe season is well under way. There are many lovely trips planned, so we hope you come on out, stay safe and enjoy the season! Take pictures when you can (and submit) to info@oldsaltsclub.com.

Time: Meet at the shed at 9:00 am with a 9:15 departure
Lunch will be at Bonnie Lou’s!
There is light rain predicted, so bring rain gear just in case. (We are living in Southern Ontario, so this weather is normal for May.)Â This will not stop us, so let me know if you plan on coming so I can have an idea of paddlers expected.

Hello all!
Due to the weather forecast for tomorrow (70% chance of rain–steady light rain in the morning and showers continuing into the afternoon), we are cancelling tomorrow’s canoe trip and potluck lunch. We are hoping to reschedule this trip/lunch for another day and will let you know the date when we can.

Hello Old Salts!
Our canoe trip on Tuesday, May 28th Thursday, June 6th is a special one. We will start out at the Freeport put in and finish at the Pioneer Sportsman Club. This has been an annual event to welcome our new members and get reacquainted with returning members. All members are very welcome!!
For those who are canoeing, meet at the shed no later than 9:00 am for a 9:15 departure. The cost is $6. Click here on what to bring, and here on what expectations are for members on our canoe trips. Since this is also a potluck, your can bring your food with you to the shed and it can be taken to the Sportsman Club with the shuttle.
For those of you who are NOT canoeing, you will be met at the gate by Pat Aiken at 11:00 am. You can bring your food with you.
