Sad News!

It is with sadness that we announce that Bob Dick died on December 21, 2021. Bob loved the outdoors and was a perfect match when he joined the Old Salts in 2009.
He was a skillful canoeist,  a biker and a hiker.  He knew every river and trail and loved to share his knowledge.  Any hike he led turned into a fun adventure.  As a valuable member of the club, he introduced many new canoe outings and walking/biking trails as well as modernizing/computerizing our bookkeeping system.  He will be missed!
Our sincere condolences to Bob’s wife Sandy.

URGENT NOTICE re: Christmas Party e-transfers

There was a typo in the email notice indicating where to send e transfers for payment.  (The “j” was left out of my e mail address.) It has since been corrected  on the blog.

The following is a list of e-transfers that I have received.  If you made an e transfer payment and are not on this list please contact me right away at brendajwelch@hotmail.com or 519-884-2168, so it can be corrected.  Otherwise I won’t know that you want to attend and there will be no meal ordered for you.

WHEN:  Meet at 1:45 p.m. to start at 2:00 p.m.

COST: $8 (includes 2 games and shoe rental)

TALENT: None necessary. We aim for fun and socializing!

THINGS TO NOTE: We will be the only ones there. Don’t come too soon. They are opening early for us. Bring masks for the washroom and shoe rental/payment area. They are optional while we bowl.

Old Salts Christmas Party!

DATE: Tuesday, December 7th

TIME: 12 noon

WHERE: Riversong
632 Hawkesville Rd.
St. Jacobs, (across from Three Bridges)

COST: $37.12 (This includes an appetizer, salad, turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy and vegetables, bread or rolls, tea or coffee,and finished with apple or pumpkin)  Tax and gratuity are included in the cost.

Dinner will be served. (Not a buffet)  Gluten free and vegetarian options are available if requested in advance. Spouses are welcome.

Club Event Reminders! {Scouting Trip, Year-end Get-together, etc.}

scouting trip! Last Call!

WHERE: Nith River
WHEN:  Tuesday, Oct. 12th
TIME: Meet at the shed at 8:30 a.m.
ORGANIZERS: Lynn Warmington & Wayne Bean
SKILL LEVEL: Experienced paddlers only since this is a scouting trip!
TRIP DETAILS: Putting in on Blenheim Road just south of Oxford Road 29 at Silver Bridge and take out at the second (south bridge) in Canning.  It’s about a 15 km paddle.  Driving time to the put in from Wing 404 is approximately 40 minutes.
COST: $6

                            Then Right on Arthur Road (sign says Local traffic only)
                            Right on John Place (second last house on left (green
                            Siding)
Comraderie and  great conversation will be provided. A wonderful opportunity to meet and greet fellow OSSCC members whether you canoed this season or not!

With the end of the canoeing season comes the clean up of the canoes and equipment to get ready for 2022 and training. If you can, we would love to have you come out and assist with the cleaning.  Any help along with buckets and sponges would be much appreciated. Hot water, soap and and great conversation will be provided.

Scouting Trip!

There is one last outing being planned to scout a trip for next year’s schedule! The Nith River has some interesting sections that would be  welcome additions to the schedule. Details for the trip are as follows:
