Car Pooling:
Please make car pooling arrangements before we meet on Wednesday morning. If you carpool, please reimburse your driver ($10 would be appropriate for this trip). If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Grand River: Conestogo—Shirley Drive

TRIP: Conestogo to Shirley Drive

TRIP DETAILS: Approximately a 3 hour paddle past two golf courses. See how many golf balls you can fish out of the river!

SKILL LEVEL: Basic Training

Grand River: Bean Park—Paris to Brant Conservation Area

Date: Tuesday, July 9

Basic Training Required

Time: Meet at the Shed for departure at 8:30 am sharp!

Drive: 45 minutes

Trip Details: A 2 & 1/2 hour summer paddle with a few rapids, wide river vistas, and a chance to see bald eagles and blue herons.

Carpool: Please make carpooling arrangements before we meet Tuesday morning. If you carpool, please reimburse the driver ($10 would be appropriate for this trip). If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Bring: PFD, emergency contact card, lunch, water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, and proper footwear (no flip-flops or crocs).

Most of the cars will be parked outside the Conservation Area (to save the park fee.) There is adequate parking, but carpooling is encouraged.
You will have to walk from the ‘take-out’ to the parking lot as only the towing vehicle will be at the ‘take-out’.
If you choose to park there, the cost is $6.75.
If anyone has a pass for the Grand River Conservation Area, let Anne know.

Grand River – Kaufman to Shirley Drive

Basic Training Required: Fairly easy paddle

Cost: $8 (no envelopes necessary)

Meet at the shed to leave @ 8:30am

Trip Details:
This is a lovely but fairly easy paddle through Bridgeport with a little excitement passing under the Bridgeport bridge.
We will pass by Bingemans and can check out the trailer park and camp grounds as we pass by.
Hopefully we may see Blue Herons or Bald Eagles.
This is about a 2 1/2 hour paddle depending on the river flow.
If the flow is as high as it is this week, the trip may be extended.

This is a lovely paddle under the Bridgeport bridge (which can be a bit tricky), and past Bingaman’s trailer park and camp grounds

Rockwood ~ paddle or hike ~ September 7th

September 7th  at 1:00pm 

Options: Canoe, hike or come to socialize 

More Details: 
Everyone who has EVER been an Old Salt Senior Canoe Club member, is welcome to come out to this traditional paddle and wiener roast at the Rockwood Conservation area.

You can choose to:
canoe a very easy picture perfect route up to the falls and see the old mill, walk on the well defined trails overlooking the lake OR
just sit and socialize 

If you are canoeing:
Bring  your typical canoe gear and meet us at the 404 shed at 1PM so we know how many canoes to bring.

If you are not canoeing:
You  can either meet at the shed at 1pm and carpool OR
meet us at Rockwood at 2 to 2:30 down by the bridge by the beach.

Potluck location: Hopefully campsite #4.
Cost to Enter Park: There is an admission fee  $5.75 for seniors.
What to Bring:  Potluck item, cutlery and beverage and your lawn chair.
Dinner Served:  At 5pm.

DIRECTIONS:
leaving the shed turn right on Weber, right onto Northfield, right
onto the expressway , take the Victoria St – HWY 7 exit- all the way to Guelph-turn right on Victoria N then left back onto HWY 7 into Rockwood turn right onto Falls Avenue and into the park.

September 5th Paddle

Fall is near, have no fear there is plenty of paddles suitable for all! 

Date:  Tuesday September 5th

Trip: Green River – Township of Ramara &Severn 

Basic Training is required.

Cost: $15 (no envelopes necessary) 

Time: Meet at the shed @ 8:00 a.m.,
Travel time from RCAF Wing 404 to Launch Point
is 2+ hours (Hwy 400 – Hwy 11).

Trip Details: 
The Green River is a true hidden gem in Ontario’s Lake County (Washago). The route takes us thru cottage country. We will pass marsh areas with beaver lodges and beautiful birds and see the fish swim through the crystal-clear waters. We will visit the Washago Grist Mill (built in 1873) and view a number of small waterfalls and rapids along the way. 

Waterway: Green River and Black River 
Distance and Time of Paddle: 7-15 km and 3 hours 
Difficulty: Easy with some light current.

Type of Route – Loop ( no car shuttle required)

What to Bring:
Bring lunch, water, hat, bug spray (deer flies) ,sunscreen, sunglasses, PFD, and proper footwear- no flipflops 

Bring a swimsuit and towel to take advantage of the many swimming opportunities along the way or a stop at Washago Centennial Park at the end of the paddle for a swim.

Special Note:    Let’s make this a fun evening.
We encourage you to bring your own flashlight, headlight and glow in the dark bracelets/necklaces or other light mechanism to illuminate the night sky.    Feel free to decorate your canoe with lights.

Trip Details:
We will circumnavigate the reservoir and explore along the shoreline. Water flows through the dam and into the Thames River (southwest side)

Trip Details:
 Surprisingly this beautiful sanctuary of flora and fauna lies in the middle of Canada’s most densely populated Golden Horseshoe area. A leisurely paddle takes you through the heart of the Royal Botanical Garden’s surrounding lands but with civilization never far from view. There may be a parking fee of $3 per hour/car.
