Stratford: Avon River

Trip Details:
This is a leisurely paddle on the lovely Avon River in Stratford, followed by a picnic lunch on the island. Enjoy the sights, particularly the swans, but don’t get too close!

Carpool:
Please make carpooling arrangements before we meet Thursday morning.
If you carpool, please reimburse your driver. ($10 would be appropriate for this trip.) If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Remember to Bring:
PFD, emergency contact card, water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and proper footwear (no flip-flops or crocs).

Grand River: Bean Park—Paris to Brant Conservation Area

Date: Tuesday, July 9

Basic Training Required

Cost: $8 (no envelopes)

Time: Meet at the Shed for departure at 8:30 am sharp!

Drive: 45 minutes

Trip Details: A 2 & 1/2 hour summer paddle with a few rapids, wide river vistas, and a chance to see bald eagles and blue herons.

Carpool: Please make carpooling arrangements before we meet Tuesday morning. If you carpool, please reimburse the driver ($10 would be appropriate for this trip). If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Bring: PFD, emergency contact card, lunch, water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, and proper footwear (no flip-flops or crocs).

Most of the cars will be parked outside the Conservation Area (to save the park fee.) There is adequate parking, but carpooling is encouraged.
You will have to walk from the ‘take-out’ to the parking lot as only the towing vehicle will be at the ‘take-out’.
If you choose to park there, the cost is $6.75.
If anyone has a pass for the Grand River Conservation Area, let Anne know.

Saugeen River #1

Date: Tuesday, July 2
Trip: Walkerton—Lobe’s Park.

Intermediate skill level required.
Please have your “emergency contact card” with you, especially for this trip!

Time: Meet at the Shed to leave at 8:00 am sharp.
Driving time is close to two hours.
Our time on the river will be approximately 4 hours.

Cost: $15 (no envelopes)

Trip Details:
The Put-In is in downtown Walkerton at Concession Rd 10, Access Point 5; Take-Out is at Concession Rd 10 & Brant Concession Rd 10, Access Point 7.

We’ll encounter moderate rapids and picturesque scenery as we meander north viewing high sand cliffs and observing flora and fauna.
We stop for lunch at a lovely bend in the river where some swim and surf.
This is an all-day trip that usually ends with an ice-cream cone!

If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Bring: PFD, hat, sufficient water, snacks, lunch, rain jacket, change of clothing, sun screen, and insect repellant. Please do NOT wear flip flops or crocs.

Grand River – Kaufman to Shirley Drive

Trip: Grand River –  Kaufman’s to Shirley Dr.

Basic Training Required: Fairly easy paddle

Cost: $8 (no envelopes necessary)

Meet at the shed to leave @ 8:30am

Trip Details:
This is a lovely but fairly easy paddle through Bridgeport with a little excitement passing under the Bridgeport bridge.
We will pass by Bingemans and can check out the trailer park and camp grounds as we pass by.
Hopefully we may see Blue Herons or Bald Eagles.
This is about a 2 1/2 hour paddle depending on the river flow.
If the flow is as high as it is this week, the trip may be extended.

Nith River Silver bridge to Canning

This is another exciting paddle with lots of twists, turns and rapids.
A 3-4 hour paddle, requiring good river reading skills, Intermediate training and strong paddling skills.

Car Pool:

Must have Intermediate training and strong paddling and river reading skills. 3-3 ½ hour paddle.

This is a challenging and exciting paddle with some nice drops in water and some small rapids. 
Must have Intermediate training and strong paddling and river reading skills. 3-3 ½ hour paddle.

Trip Details: This is an interesting trip weaving from St. Jacob’s down the Conestogo River, going under Northfield Drive and ending up at the Grand River just south of Conestogo.
You will pass by Grey Silo gold course on your way to Kaufman’s Flats (take out).
 
Training Level: Intermediate training is a must for this trip.

ALL canoe trips will be posted on the blog and include:
1. Trip information – where we are going, time to meet, what to expect to see, experience required. 
2. Trip leader to rsvp to (NOT always Anne, please READ the post)
3. IF cancelled the morning of, the leader will send out emails to those signed up
4. ALL trips MUST be registered for. NO show up on day of and pay/drop ins 
5. PLEASE contact trip leader if you cannot make it the day of so the groups does not wait needlessly. 
6. These trips are planned for enjoyment and there is never a race to finish it fast or first. However, the trip sweepers may remind you to go the pace of the others.(as someone who always dilly-dallied, I appreciated their reminders!)
Do not make plans for the day of canoe trip, sometimes we arrive home later than planned.
