Big Creek is a watercourse in Norfolk County, Ontario.
It is approximately 60 kms long (we are doing a section of it).
It empties into Lake Erie at Port Rowan, at Long Point.
Its watershed covers 730 square kilometres.
It is called the “Canadian Amazon” as it meanders through the heavily lush canopy of the Carolinian forests of Norfolk County to Long Point.
This is a longer trip that does require maneuvering skills and stamina. Approximately a 3 hour paddle

Trip Details: A 2 hour paddle. A great trip down the Grand River, with some interesting challenges. Every year this river presents differently, ensuring an exciting paddle every time.

Car Polling: Please make arrangements before we meet Tuesday morning.

Saugeen River #1

Trip: Walkerton—Lobe’s Park.

Intermediate skill level required.
Please have your “emergency contact card” with you, especially for this trip!

Time: Meet at the Shed to leave at 8:00 am sharp.
Driving time is close to two hours.
Our time on the river will be approximately 4 hours.

Trip Details:
The Put-In is in downtown Walkerton at Concession Rd 10, Access Point 5; Take-Out is at Concession Rd 10 & Brant Concession Rd 10, Access Point 7.

We’ll encounter moderate rapids and picturesque scenery as we meander north viewing high sand cliffs and observing flora and fauna.
We stop for lunch at a lovely bend in the river where some swim and surf.
This is an all-day trip that usually ends with an ice-cream cone!

This is a challenging and exciting paddle with some nice drops in water and some small rapids.

Trip Details: This is an interesting trip weaving from St. Jacob’s down the Conestogo River, going under Northfield Drive and ending up at the Grand River just south of Conestogo.
You will pass by Grey Silo gold course on your way to Kaufman’s Flats (take out).
 
Training Level: Intermediate training is a must for this trip.

Trip Details:
Paddle down the Big Otter Creek from Vienna to Port Burwell, Ontario. The creek is a tributary of the Thames River System. 
It starts somewhere near Norwich and snakes through Tillsonburg until it finally empties in Lake Erie in the town of Port Burwell.
The trip will focus on a 17 kilometer section of the creek.
We will pass through Carolian forest and embrace the wonderful natural beauty and wildlife/bird life in the area.

**For those interested, we will stop at Simply Scoops (Ice Cream Shop & Eatery) at the end of the paddle.

Special Note:
There may be a few minor liftovers and a possible minor portage along the route. This may require paddlers to exit then re-enter their canoe.
Extra caution is required. If members are uncomfortable exiting their canoe, this paddle may not be suitable for you.
Additional Parking Fee:
$10 per canoe/ vehicle in order to park at Port Burwell Marina (this is the only suitable put out in the area).

This area is called the “Canadian Amazon” as we meander through Norfolk County towards Lake Erie’s Long Point.
This is a longer trip that does involve maneuvering skills around trees and other obstacles as well as stamina.
There is no place to exit the canoes except for the end of the trip. We could end it with a swim at the beach (paid parking or free in the park with a park pass).

Please make car pooling arrangements before we meet on Tuesday morning.   If you carpool, please reimburse your driver ($20 would be appropriate for this trip). If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

We follow this with a swim at Port Elgin and then supper at the Queen’s Hotel.

Trip Details:
This is a trip that we postponed so that we could do the Conestoga when the water levels were high. This is a lazy summer paddle with wide vistas and a chance to see Bald eagles and Blue Herons. There is a fee for the trailer to go into the park for our take out, which will be split among the paddlers.
