First Aid Training Opportunity

OSSCC has been given a grant for First Aid Training

If you are interested in registering for a First Aid course, see options below: 

Basic first aide 7 CPR:

1.First Aid 4U- 2 day course- $135 â€‚          

2. Red Cross Heart2Heart- online and 1 day of class- $127

 Upon completion of the course, submit your fees to our treasurer (treasurer@oldsaltsclub.com) for reimbursement.

Please inform Anne Woolner (annewoolner@hotmail.com) if you are planning to get qualified.

Formerly known as Max Golf (our previous mini-golf location)
Cost: Tax included – Over 65 $12.37 and Under 65 $14.53

We divide into teams for some friendly competition.

Annual Christmas Get-together

Date/Time: Tuesday, December 3 at 12:00noon
Location: Schmidtsville Restaurant (3685 Nafziger Rd. Wellesley)

Annual Canoe Regatta 

Our Annual Canoe Regatta is Tuesday September 24th at Laurel Creek Conservation Area, 625 Westmount Rd. N. Waterloo.

This is a fun day with water and land games, canoeing around the lake, hiking the trails and a potluck lunch.

Meet at 10:00 at Laurel Creek by the swimming area/reservoir.
Entrance fee is $6.75 for seniors and $8.50 if under 65.

Bring your usual canoe gear, food for the potluck, plate, cutlery and beverage.  The potluck will begin at 12:00.

You do not have to contact Pat or Betty to indicate that you are coming.
Just come and enjoy time together at Laurel Creek.

Intermediate Training Required

TIME: Meet at the Shed @ 8:00 am

TRIP DETAILS: This is a favourite paddle with interesting adventures and challenges. At the end, we usually go for a swim at Port Elgin, followed by supper at the hotel. This is an all-day trip that requires stamina and good river reading skills.

Carpooling: Please make carpooling arrangements before we meet Tuesday morning. If you carpool, please reimburse your driver ($20 would be appropriate for this trip.) If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

BRING: Emergency Contact Card (and tell your paddling partner where it is), PFD, water, hat, sunscreen, lunch, and proper footwear—no flip-flops or crocs.

Grand River: Conestogo—Shirley Drive

TRIP: Conestogo to Shirley Drive

DATE: Tuesday, August 13, 2024
TIME: Meet at the Shed 8:30 am

TRIP FEE: $8 (no envelopes)

TRIP DETAILS: Approximately a 3 hour paddle past two golf courses. See how many golf balls you can fish out of the river!

SKILL LEVEL: Basic Training

CARPOOLING: Please make car pooling arrangements before we meet on Tuesday morning. If you carpool, please reimburse your driver ($5 would be appropriate for this trip). If you drive in a different car each way, reimburse both drivers.

Remember to Bring: PFD, Emergency Contact Card, lunch, water, hat, sunscreen, and proper foot wear- no flip flops or crocs.

Big Creek—Long Point Provincial Park

Time: Meet at the Shed at 8:00 am.

Trip Fee: $15

Trip Details:
Big Creek is a watercourse in Norfolk County, Ontario.
It is approximately 60 kms long (we are doing a section of it).
It empties into Lake Erie at Port Rowan, at Long Point.
Its watershed covers 730 square kilometres.
It is called the “Canadian Amazon” as it meanders through the heavily lush canopy of the Carolinian forests of Norfolk County to Long Point.
This is a longer trip that does require maneuvering skills and stamina. Approximately a 3 hour paddle

Shuttle: Yes

Carpooling:
Please make car pooling arrangements before we meet on Tuesday morning. If you carpool, please reimburse your driver ($5-10 would be appropriate for this trip). If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Remember to Bring:
Emergency Contact Card, lunch, water, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, PFD, and proper foot wear- no flip flops or crocs
