How: Since the club is a gated community, Pat will meet people in the parking lot at 12:00 to take you to their place and again at 12:15 for any stragglers:)
Bring a favourite dish to share, a lawn chair, plate/cutlery that you will use, and your own beverages.

Tuesday, August 20th – Grand River {Glen Morris to Birley Gates}
Tomorrow’s trip should be another good one. The flow is around 37 and may change a bit by morning, but is nowhere near the summer low. We should have a great paddle as this part of the river provides lots of opportunity for us to brush up on reading the river and practice skills learned during our lessons. Since most of us have done this section of the Grand River during training, we know what to expect, but realize it can change.
The weather forecast: Sunny in the morning and early in the afternoon then a mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers late in the afternoon. High 28. Bring sunscreen and lots of water!
See “What to Bring on a Canoe Excursion”
The cost of this trip is $6. Meet at the shed by 8:30 am for a 8:45 am departure.

Easy Breezy Trip on Thursday, August 15 is on the Grand River from Moyer’s Landing, Blair to Riverbluffs Park, Cambridge
Paddling time is approximately 1 hours- Shuttle time 20 minutes. See enclosed maps.
This is a an easy paddle, just over one hours, depending on how many stops we take on the way.
After a short distance, we will come to where the Speed River joins the Grand (on River left). We will pass the Galt Country Club also on the left. If you are a golfer, bring the ball retriever, you can scoop some golf balls lost by the players. On River right are limestone cliffs and if you look carefully you will see Devil Creek Waterfall.
We will need to pay attention to spot channel passage ways, as we will encounter some shallow areas. Look for the dock at River Bluffs Park on our right, here we exit. We will stop here for lunch, hopefully under a tree.
Remember to bring the usual canoe gear as well as water, snacks/lunch, sunscreen and hat.
Weather conditions should be ideal, Sunny. High 22Celsius.
Meet at the shed at 9:00 a.m. Cost for the trip, $6.00
Trip Organizers: Pina Tenti, Marilynn Fisher, Al Dunn
Towing: Eugene Marion
Always check your email before leaving for the shed, weather conditions might change. Trips can be cancelled due to bad weather.

It is with great sadness that I give you the news that our Past President, and my predecessor, Paul Eckmier has passed away. For those of you who knew Paul, you will remember his engaging smile and his many contributions to this Club, both as a member and as President. For those of you who didn’t know him, his leadership on our board on behalf of the club is an example for the rest of us. He will be missed!
For anyone who may be interested, his obituary can be found at the KW Record.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Koinonia Christian Fellowship (850 Sawmill Rd, Bloomingdale).
Tuesday’s trip on the Saugeen River starts at access #10 on the north edge of Paisley to Access #13, just inland from Port Elgin. The trip is 17.5 km and approximately 3-4 hours. The shuttle time is 30 minutes.
We will be stopping at a conservation area (with washrooms) for lunch about 1 hour into the trip. The river is running fairly low with occasional peaks due to local showers but has been holding good enough flows. Some river reading skills may well come into play. A great trip for all river paddlers. Weather forecast is calling for sun with cloudy periods and a chance of a passing shower, around 24.
This is our last opportunity to run this popular river with an added plus of a swim at Port Elgin beach and supper after (bring swim suits, towels and extra money).
As usual bring sunscreen, insect repellant, lunch, lots of water, dry sack with change of clothes and OSSCC emergency card.
The cost for the all-day event is $9.00 (please remember car pooling money).
We meet at the shed at 7:30-7:45 with and 8:00 sharp departure for our 1 ½ hour drive.
Remember to check your email/blog Monday night and early Tuesday morning, in case there are changes or call Trip Organizers.
