WHAT’S HAPPENING!

SAUGEEN RIVER {Part 2} – Photos

Hello all!

Thanks to everyone who came out on this second leg of the Saugeen River.  It was perfect day to enjoy the scenery, the water, each other’s company and an ice cream treat at the end:)

We had 24 canoeists on this paddle which we haven’t seen in quite a while!  Here are some photos to capture the trip:

Of course after laboring so hard on the river and burning up all those calories, we rewarded ourselves with ice cream at the end of the trip.  It was definitely one of the highlights of the day.

Check out the variety and the size of the cones (regular size)!!

NITH RIVER {Ayr to Wolverton} – Photos

Those of you who missed this part of the Nith River will be happy to know that the trip was a big hit and will hopefully  be on the schedule for next year.  The general consensus of those who came out was that it was a fun experience with lots of current, minor “rapids” and lots of chances to practice water reading skills to keep us on our toes.

Thanks to Lynn Warmington and Dianne Wagner for scouting, organizing and leading this trip. Here are some photos to show some high points of this fun trip. Enjoy:)

do not plan any other activities on canoe trip days. we cannot guarantee when we’ll be back!

Please be on time for scheduled departures so there is time to sign in, pay trip fee, organize number of canoes required, arrange transportation/car pools, etc. The sooner we can get to our destination, the sooner we can get on the water!  You won’t want to end up having to car top a canoe or be left behind!!  (Please leave enough time to get to the shed, but if you get caught up in traffic, please let the trip coordinator know as this will make a difference in how many canoes are required and if we need another tower)

If you have any questions about the canoe trips, please contact the trip coordinators listed with the trips on the schedule.

If you are towing for any of the above trips, please keep track of your mileage from the time you leave the shed to the time you return to the shed after the trip. Remember to either pick up a towing reimbursement form from  the binder in the shed or download it from here.

Weather for tomorrow is Sunny and 22 Degrees C., perfect day for a river paddle.  The Edenvale to Wasaga Beach portion we are paddling is approximately 15 kms (3-4 hrs). The river is home to numerous mammals and the bird life is abundant and over 200 species have been sited. The river also supports 32 species of fish.

This trip is open to all members! (see “What to bring on a Canoe Excursion“)

We will meet at the shed between 7:30 -7:50 am so we can leave at 8:00 am sharp.  Since this is one of our longer trips, the cost will be $9.00.

EASY BREEZY CANCELLED!

Due to lack of interest and no tower, tomorrow’s Easy Breezy is being cancelled.

The next Easy Breezy is scheduled for August 15th. (Moyer’s Landing to River’s Bluff)

There hasn’t been much interest in our Easy Breezy outings this year. Attendance has been much lower than in the past.  We have also not had anyone volunteer to tow for the past several trips either.

Therefore, the question to our membership is:
1) Do we continue with Easy Breezy paddles?
2) If yes, are you willing to volunteer to be a Trip Organizer or be a tower?
3) If yes, how often would you paddle on an Easy Breezy trip?
4) If no, why?

Please use the comments below to start a discussion, provide feedback and suggestions.
