Since I’m not sure how much interest/availability there is in this ‘so close to Christmas’ hike, please let me know by 5:00 Monday, Dec. 18, if you will join us!

Time: 10:00 am

Notes:
The Speed River, a major tributary of the Grand, flows through Wellington County and the Region of Waterloo in southwestern Ontario. It flows south from its source near Orton, through Guelph, where it is joined by the Eramosa River, then through the towns of Hespeler and Preston, finally uniting with the Grand River in north-west Cambridge. The Grand River (a Canadian Heritage River) is the largest river that is entirely within southern Ontario’s boundaries. From its source near Wareham, Ontario, it flows south 280 kms through Grand Valley, Fergus, Elora, Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, Paris, Brantford, Caledonia, and Cayuga before emptying into the north shore of Lake Erie south of Dunnville at Port Maitland. wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand River

OSSCC Hike: Mill Race Trail (St. Jacobs)

Tuesday, December 12, 2023, plan to join Bett and the crew for an enjoyable late fall hike!

Time: 10:00 am
Hike Location:
Mill Race Trail, 33 Front Street, St. Jacobs. There may still be construction in the area, but the trail is accessible. Turn right into the parking lot next to Saliente Wood Designs (yellow building) and the Caboose (ice cream place in summer

Duration:
4 km out-and-back, approximately 1 ½ hours

Notes:
Come join us for this delightful, gentle walk on the Mill Race Trail, known locally as “Lovers Lane”!
The trail is an easy, level, stone-dust trail that parallels the mill race diversion of the Conestogo River from the old 1850s Snyder Mill (the first mill in St. Jacobs), upstream to the dam at Three Bridges Rd. west of the village.

There’s also the option for those who wish, on the return, to lengthen the hike by turning at the overhead railway trestle and adding on part of the Health Valley Trail.

Plan to join Bett and the crew to hike the Walter Bean Grand River
Trail (also known as Woolner Trail) on the east side of Kitchener

Time: 10:00 am
Hike Location:
From Fairway Road North, take the roundabout first
exit onto Woolner Trail continuing on to the trail entrance on the left
at the K.D. Woerner Family Trailway parking lot.

Walter Bean Trail is considered part of the larger Grand River Valley
Trail, a 250-kilometre route that runs along much of the length of the river. The trail follows the river through Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo and is owned and maintained by these three cities.
The Grand Valley Trail is an adjacent narrow trail through the woods, that parallels the paved WB trail in places. It is shaded and pretty with excellent views of the river!
