Tuesday July 25th

Date: Tuesday July 25th
Trip: Beaver River

Intermediate training

Leaders:  Doug Arthur and Bruce Williams
Tower: Bruce Burkhardt

Cost: $15 (no envelopes necessary)
Time: Meet at the shed @ 8:00am
Drive Time:  This is a 1 1/2 to 2 hr drive, with a 3 to 3 1/2 hr paddle.

Trip Details:
This is a club favourite on a very picturesque river starting at Sideroad 19 access north of Kimberley. Stop and have our picnic lunch at Heathcote. Take out at Slabtown.

The lower section contains a delightful series of rapids endiing at a dam at Slabtown.   This is longer trip that requires stamina and endurance, with moderate rapids and spectacular scenery as we meander north viewing high cliffs and observing flora and fauna.

We stop for lunch at a lovely bend in the river where some can cool off with a swim. This is an all day paddle that usually ends up with an ice cream cone!
This trip does require stamina as it is longer and has a few challenges along the way.
Intermediate training is a MUST for this trip.

Please make car pooling arrangements before we meet on Tuesday morning.
If you carpool, please reimburse your driver ($20 would be appropriate for this trip).
If you drive in a different car each way, please reimburse both drivers.

Remember: Bring lunch, water, hat, sunscreen, PFD and proper foot wear- no flip flops or crocs!

Ponder and Post

As I sit and ponder about blog posts, I wanted to ask members a few things about “HOW” to engage with them-you?
HOW many like to receive posts about ‘social events? Do you want/require reminders?

HOW many of you can’t access the blog posts when you click on blog post-read on website? Have you forgotten your password?
Do you OPEN the posts or read it via your email for key words or information?
Are you receiving TOO many posts in your inbox?

Are there pieces missing you would like to see on the website, perhaps in the membership tab: List of Board and Committee members? List of years of service/membership? Other suggestions. Remember, this information would be for members only

WHY now... We have low # engagement for the blog posts.
Does that mean you are not interested in any other events than the weekly canoe trips?  Are you busy doing life, you cannot join in? It’s not ‘your jam?

Volunteers are planning amazing trips and the social committee has many fun activities planned, however, if participation is low, we’d like to know how we can improve OR do we allow it to be as it is and go about our merry little way in this thing called life!!

Gentle reminder, this is OUR Club and your input is important.
We are successful when folks say they enjoy the club, are having fun, meeting new people and want to return the following year.

This is achieved via canoeing and social events with members.

If you have ANY comments – suggestions, please email info@oldsaltsclub.com and I will pass along to the Board members to discuss and ponder away at.
We are open to receive the good, the bad and the ugly… hopefully more good than bad 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to read this long ponder post, I appreciate it.

2. Sign Up Now for Bondi Trip  September  11-15
Are you are interested in joining us for our canoeing adventure in the waters near Algonquin?
We stay in a lodge on the shores of Lake of Bays. As the lodge has no restaurant, we will have 4 teams that will take turns cooking one supper and one breakfast. We also provide food for lunches on the canoe treks.

The cost for the 4 nights is usually around $400 but that depends on how many are going and if we need a second cottage.
Although we canoe during the day, at night, we also have activities- wolf howl (and yes, the wolves do howl back), star gazing, and campfire.
There are lots of trails nearby and even a Ultimate frisbee course.

If you are interested
and/or need more information please contact
Anne: email (annewoolner@hotmail.com  or phone 519-743-2277)

Required deposit dates:
$120 by June 22 and  final deposit by the 1st week of September.             (BOTH ARE NON-REFUNDABLE)
