About Us
We are canoe enthusiasts, aged 55+, who enjoy the outdoors, the water, and each other’s company.
Members of the Old Salts Seniors Canoe Club get together for a weekly canoe trip Tuesday mornings and twice a month on Thursdays (weather permitting) throughout the season on lakes and rivers in southwestern Ontario. Although most of our trips are within an hour’s drive from the KW area, some may be further away to give our members a change of scenery with new experiences and challenges.
We’ve enjoyed exploring the Grand River, as well as other rivers such as the Saugeen, Conestoga, Nith, Beaver, and Speed Rivers. Lake paddles have included Floradale Lake, Hespeler Pond, and Stratford. We always have fun and ice cream is often the reward at the end!
Trips are planned with the skill levels of our members in mind and range from flat water paddles to more challenging trips that include navigating some rapids and practicing skills learned in our training sessions! Whatever your skill level, we always have fun…..
Our members are required to volunteer to help in some capacity to ensure the continued viability and success of our Club which is why we consider our members the heart of the OSSCC.
Limited Membership and the Waitlist
The OSSCC is always interested in adding new members. Unfortunately, due to demand, the club has to limit membership to ensure new members have the opportunity to acquire mandatory Basic Training skills. Membership is, therefore, partly based on the number of paddlers the club is equipped to train. Another factor considered is adherence to the Conditions of Membership—posted on the club website: www.oldsaltsclub.com.
To address the issue of membership, the club has a Waitlist for prospective members to indicate interest in registering for the next canoeing season. To add your name to the Waitlist, you must email info@oldsaltsclub.com.
